The student will investigate a variety of musical
genres indigenous to the communities in the United States. (refer
to Grade 3 Social Studies) |

The student will listen to and perform music
related to tall tales, spirituals, patriotic music and American
folk songs. |

The student will listen to and compare music from
various cultures and communities. |

The student will investigate ways that
instruments, dance, and other art forms are used by various
communities including our own. |
| PERFORMANCE
AND PRODUCTION OBJECTIVES: |

The student will echo short rhythmic and melodic
patterns, vocally and instrumentally. |
|
The student will express himself/herself by
singing a variety of songs including rounds and partner songs. |
|
The student will recognize treble clef pitch
notation. |
|
The student will identify and perform simple
rhythmic notation, quarter notes, quarter rests, eighth notes,
half notes and rests, whole notes and rests, and dotted half
notes. |
|
The student will explain and apply musical symbols
including time signatures, repeat signs, fermata, bar and double
bar lines. |
|
The student will reinforce and expand the
students' understanding and use of dynamics and markings (p, f,
mp, mf, crescendo, diminuendo, ff, and pp). |
|
The student will create short pieces of music
using grade specific criteria. |
|
The student will use a variety of sound sources
(body percussion, traditional and non-traditional sounds) to
express musical ideas. |
|
The student will create and perform short
accompaniments (including ostinati, borduns, and choral). |
|
The student will identify and select appropriate
tempi and tempo changes. |
|
The student will identify and produce a simple
conducting pattern (2/4, 3/4, 4/4). |
