VOCAL MUSIC

FOURTH GRADE

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:

The student will create and perform music independently using correct notation.

The student will demonstrate an understanding of the role of technology in contemporary music and music careers.

The student will increase musical understanding and skills through singing, listening, moving, creating, and playing   instruments.

The student will relate music to Ohio history.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS:

The student will classify basic orchestral instruments visually and aurally.

The student will classify voice parts (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) and ensemble groups (solo, duet. trio).

The student will develop criteria for evaluating performance and composition.

The student will explore theme and variation.

The student will explore program music and differentiate between music-for-music's-sake and music with a defined purpose (e.g. through written summary, creative movement, visual representation, etc.).

The student will compare and contrast the common terms across the arts (form, texture, line, color).

The student will create or select music to dramatize literature.

HISTORICAL, CULTURAL, AND SOCIAL CONTEXT:

The student will explore and perform music related to Ohio history.

The student will identify places, resources, and events in the community (Music Hall, Aronoff Center, St.Mary's Cathedral Basilica, Tall Stacks, Arts Sampler, Art Museum, etc.) where they can find the arts.

The student will investigate how different cultural groups contribute or have contributed to existing music.

The student will examine the impact of technology on emerging music.

The student will perform music sung in different languages.

The student will examine the roles/issues/careers of professional and amateur musicians in society.
